Manchester, Nov 4: English football giants, Chelsea and Manchester United struggled to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages in Tuesday, Nov 3 matches.

In a frantic ending, Manchester United managed to enter the knockout stage by scoring late goals to secure a 3-3 draw against CSKA Moscow in their Group B match.

Didier Drogba's two goals led Chelsea to secure a draw of 2-2 with Athletico in Madrid and make it to the next round.

"We have qualified which is great although it would have been nice to do it with a win," Drogba said after the match.

Bordeaux and Porto also qualified for the knockout stage.

United drawn with Roma again in Champions League

Monte Carlo, Aug 31: Manchester United and AS Roma will meet in the Champions League group stages, just a few months after violence marred their quarter-final clash. The two teams were drawn in Group F today, along with Sporting Lisbon and Dynamo Kiev. A United fan was stabbed in Rome during their first leg on April 4. There were also scuffles between the fans outside Old Trafford before United's 7-1 victory in the return match. Holders AC Milan were drawn with Benfica, Celtic.....

Kaka named UEFA's European player of the year

Monte Carlo, Aug 31 : AC Milan's Kaka was named European club player of the year by UEFA today. The Brazilian also collected the award for best forward during last season's Champions League. Chelsea's Petr Cech was named the best goalkeeper from last season's tournament. AC Milan's Paolo Maldini won the best defender award while team mate Clarence Seedorf was judged to be the best midfielder. Reuters>.....

Moscow, Aug 16: Russian media has accused German referee Herbert Fandel of favouring Scottish champions Celtic over Spartak Moscow in their Champions League qualifier and jeopardizing Moscow chances of reaching the tournament proper.
