Malay Indians advised to bring back golden sports era of 1960s-70s

Kuala Lumpur, Nov 4 (ANI): Malaysian Indian Congress vice-president M. Saravanan has urged Indians to bring back the golden era of 1960s and 1970s when the community excelled in many different sporting arenas.

He said that back then many Indians represented the country overseas.

Saravanan was speaking to reporters after opening a seven-a-side football tournament organised by the MIC Gelang Patah division in Skudai last Sunday, the Tamil Nesan reports.

He said more youths should be active in sports to become successful like Dr M. Jegathesan in athletics and goalkeeper Arumugam in football.

Saravanan said that while Malaysian Indians had been giving priority to education and economic stability, they should not neglect sports.

Saravanan, who is also Deputy Federal Territories Minister, urged Indian sports organisations to hold more competitions and dentify talented athletes so they could be given training and guidance to excel. (ANI)

250 Malay Tamil families may not celebrate Pongal

Kuala Lumpur, Jan.13 (ANI): About 250 Malay Indian and Malay Tamil families in the Kampung Pandan Indian settlement are worried that they would not be able to celebrate Pongal (Harvest Festival) tomorrow as they have received final notices from the Kuala Lumpur City Council (DBKL) to vacate their houses by today.A Malaysia Nanban report said the families had been living there for the past 70 years. In earlier letters to the residents, DBKL requested the residents to move into rental.....
