'China denies building dam on Brahmaputra'

New Delhi, Nov 4: Foreign Secretary Nirupama Rao has said the country had taken up the issue with China on construction of dam on the Brahmaputra river many times, but Beijing had consistently denied it.

Speaking to reporters hereon Wednesday, Nov 4, Rao said, "We have taken up the issue with China many times. China has consistently denied that such a dam was being constructed."


She was responding to a question on the reported construction at the Zangmu site on the Chinese side of the Brahmaputra river, which was confirmed by The National Remote Sensing Agency (NRSA).

According to media reports, the NRSA showed evidence of 'houses, construction and movement of trucks in and around a three-four kilometre range at the site.

Last month, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had also taken up the issue with his Chinese counterpart Wen Jiabao on the sidelines of the ASEAN-India and East Asia Summit.

Mr Prime Minister if you address the issues relating to China and Corruption genuinely,then India will remember for ever for this gift by a PM. You must also ensure that 'the Madhu Kodas' are punished and the illegal wealth brought back to the people of India. God Bless You
