Lucknow, Nov 4: Congress MP and Former Indian cricket team captain Mohammad Azharuddin has been booked for violating election code of conduct in Uttar Pradesh.

Minister for road transport and highways R P N Singh has also been charged following the violation, police said here on Wednesday, Nov 4.

According to police, Singh and Azharuddin addressed public meetings in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar district on Tuesday, Nov 3, without taking the mandatory permission from the district administration

"Both of them were booked under section 188 of the IPC as they violated the election code of conduct by organising meetings at the grounds of the Udit Naraynan College," police inspector V S Chauhan was quoted by news agency as saying.

"In their attempt to solicit support for the Congress candidate, the two also played cricket. On the directions of the district administration, the case was registered against the two," he added
