China politicising spiritual travels: Dalai Lama

Dalai Lama
Tokyo, Oct 31: In the wake of the controversy surrounding Dalai Lama's visit to Taiwan and Arunachal Pradesh, the Tibetan spiritual leader has said China was overpoliticising his 'spiritual' travels.

"The Chinese government politicises too much wherever I go. Where I go is not political,"
Dalai Lama said adding that the Chinese government saw him as a 'troublemaker'.

Beijing which considers Taiwan as a part of its territory had raised objection to Dalai Lama visiting the place. Ignoring the objection, the spiritual leader visited Taiwan last month to bless the survivors of Typhoon Morakot.

Apart from this, the communist nation had also raised strong objection against the religious leader visiting Arunachal Pradesh in Nov 2009. China has launched a bitter battle of words with India over the ownership of the northeastern Indian state.

Addressing a press conference in Japan on Saturday, Oct 31, Dalai Lama came down heavily upon China and urged people to visit Tibet and decide whether Tibetans under Chinese rule are happy.
