New Delhi, Oct 30: 25 Years after the controversial decision which eventually led to her assassination, RK Dhawan, personal secretary and close aide of Indira Gandhi revealed that the late Prime Minister regretted her decision on Operation Blue star.

"Gandhi regretted both decisions on Operation Blue star and the Emergency. The outcome of the decision was not the same as Gandhi had taken the decision," Dhawan said.

Dhawan said the decision taken as corrective to tackle the problems created by the opposition turn contrary to what Gandhi had envisaged and the decision to impose emergency was taken  in Jan 1975 before it was imposed in Jun 25, 1975.

"The decision to adopt the exact mode of action delayed the imposition of  the decision. It was later taken after consultation with legal experts", he said.

Operation Blue stars which refers to the decision to allow military operation in Golden Temple to tackle Sikh separatist who were  amassing weapons in the temple prove fatal for the Prime Minister as she fell to the bullets of her Sikh bodyguards, Beant Singh and Kehar Singh and Satwant Singh on Oct 31, 1984.

All the three assassins were declared martyrs at special religious function organised in Amritsar in 2008.
