London, Oct 30: On the same day as the symbollic Queen's baton rally, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CWF) and the Organising Committee (OC) resolved their disputes and agreed to worked together.
A marathon meeting between Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) President Michael Fennell and Organising Committee chairman Suresh Kalmadi was held on Friday, Oct 30 where both the parties decided to resolve issues for the success of the Games.
Speaking on a reconciliatory note after a war of words that lasted weeks, the joint statement issued by Mr. Fennell and Mr. Kalmadi said, “It is agreed that there have been misunderstandings and unfortunate media statements and reports that have created a regrettable set of circumstances."
“However, we feel that is critical that our attention is focussed entirely on those functional areas that are essential to the successful celebration of the Games in 2010 and no useful purpose would be served by spending precious time on those issues and we will put this behind us," the statement added.
Agreeing to work together 'as partners, fully recognising and respecting our individual roles', the heads of the bodies have promised to keep the eye on the target and not get distracted.
The statement did not reveal any details on other decisions taken in the meet. However, sources have revealed that CGF CEO Mike Hooper will continue to remain in New Delhi to oversee the preparations of the Games.
