Atletico Madrid eye Arsenal's 10 million pound Merida

London, Oct. 30 (ANI): Atletico Madrid has stepped up their interest in Arsenal ace Fran Merida.

The nineteen-year-old ten million pound midfielder scored a stunner against Liverpool in the Carling Cup on Wednesday.

But he could be a free agent in the summer and Atletico president Enrique Cerezo confirmed last night: "He has entered into our plans for next season.

"He is a player that interests us. The decision rests with the kid because he is free in June," The Sun quoted Cerezo as saying further.

Merida, however, wants to keep his options open and is currently talking to the Gunners about a new deal. (ANI)

Madrid, June 5: Basque rebels ETA, who want independence from Spain, will end their ceasefire as of June 6, the armed separatists said in a communique released in Basque newspaper Berria on Tuesday. Spanish film legend Fernan-Gomez dies age 86

Madrid, Nov 22: Fernando Fernan-Gomez, one of Spain's most famous actors and directors, died in Madrid aged 86, Spanish media reported. Fernan-Gomez, who was born in Lima, Peru while his actress mother was on tour there, made over 200 appearances in Spanish television series and films including Spain's 1992 Oscar-winning film La Belle Epoque, which also starred a young Penelope Cruz. During his 64-year career, Fernan-Gomez, received the Principe de Asturias prize six Goyas -- Spain's top film award. He died after.....

EU sports chief warns WADA, rules out rival

Lisbon, Oct 26: The European Union's top sports regulator has ruled out a new European rival to the World Anti-Doping Agency, but said the organisation required a major shake-up under its new chief. EU Sports Commissioner Jan Figel was responding to a call from former French sports minister Jean-Francois Lamour, who withdrew last week from the race to become WADA boss, for a new EU anti-doping agency, saying WADA was ''ineffective''.
