Saina, Jwala advance in French super series

Paris, Oct 29: India's Saina Nehwal entered the second round of the French Super Series after overcoming tough opponent Juliane Schenk 21-18 19-21 21-13 in a 53-minute long battle.

The young shuttler from India struggled to defeat the German contender in the first-round match which was held in Paris on Wednesday, Oct 28.

Jwala Gutta also advanced in the prestigious badminton tournament after claiming victories both in the mixed doubles and women's doubles category with her partners V Diju and Ashwini Ponnappa respectively.

India also did well in the men's doubles category with Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas defeating French opponents Maxime Renault and Sylvain Ternon 21-14 21-15 in less than half hour.

However, in men's singles, Anup Sridhar, Chetan Anand and Arvind Bhat disappointed the country by losing in the first-round.

Badminton: Kanako too strong for Saina

Guwahati, Dec 5: Japanese girl Kanako Yonekera proved too strong for India's No 1 Saina Nehwal as the former comfortably lifted the women's single title of the India International challenge badminton, played here today. Kanako made it in straight set 21-13 and 21-18 in just 45 minutes.
