Sibal's committee finds 40 deemed universities below standard
New Delhi, Oct 29: Exposing the sad state of Indian education, a review committee constituted by the Union Human Resource Ministry has reportedly revealed that over 40 deemed universisty in the country don't meet the standards set and therefore the status deserves to be repealed.

Times News Network (TNN) on Thursday, Oct 29 published a report stating that the panel found only 38 universities with required infrastructure.

While the panel found 44 other universities capable of holding the status provided that they improve on infrastructure, research and administration, the rest of universities are all beyond hope and they did not deserve to retain the status.

Quoting sources, the report also gives certain information on the universities that the panel found beyond redemption.

The majority of the deemed universities not found fit were from South India from Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, while three were in Haryana, two each in Uttarakhand and Uttar Pradesh, TNN reports.

Other reports suggest, the committee which went through the presentations of the deemed universities and examined the documents found that the universities failed when it came to quality of faculty and facility.

The report has not yet been made public and media reports suggest that the HRD ministry led by Kapil Sibal is hesitating to do so as many of these institutions are run by powerful people.
