Doha Opener: Serena wins, Venus disappoints

Doha, Oct 28: While the second-seeded Serena Williams opened with a victory in the Sony Ericsson Championships, her sister, the seventh-seeded Venus disappointed in the Doha opener.

Serena William started off her campaign with a bang overthrowing third-seeded French Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova 7-6 (8-6), 7-5.

However, reigning Championships titlist, Venus fell to fifth-seeded Olympic gold medalist Elena Dementieva 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 on opening day.

In another round-robin affair on the opening day of the season-ending 4.55 million dollar championship, sixth-seeded Victoria Azarenka defeated eighth-seeded former world No 1 Jelena Jankovic 6-2, 6-3.

Doha round in its last mile; India's concerns must be addressed

New Delhi, Oct 30: Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Kamal Nath today gave good news to leading global CEOs assembled in the capital that the Doha Development round was closer than ever before to come to a conclusion, but added that for India to use its flexibilities its "senisitivities" must be addressed. Addressing the 'Fortune Global Forum' here, the Minister said in the next two months the negotiations of the Doha round would reach a greater level of "convergence" where India.....
