US embassy in Islamabad temporarily suspends consular services

Islamabad, Oct 27(ANI): The US embassy in Islamabad has issued a 'Warden Notice', announcing that it was suspending routine consular services from Monday due to unspecified security reasons.

"This Warden Notice is to notify American citizens that routine consular services will be temporarily suspended from Monday," The Daily News quoted the notice, as saying.

The embassy has however clarified that the suspension was temporary, and normal service would resume on Friday. It would continue to provide emergency services to Americans in need of such assistance.

Meanwhile, all immigrant and non-immigrant visa interviews would be rescheduled and passport applications would only be available from November 2.

The notice has also advised US citizens in Pakistan to take precautionary measures amid a tense security situation. (ANI)

US panel urges tighter scrutiny of Saudi abuses

Washington, Oct 18: Saudi Arabia has failed to take substantial steps to promote religious tolerance, despite assurances from the Bush administration that the kingdom has made progress on reform, a US watchdog said today. A report by the US Commission on International Religious Freedom called for new congressional scrutiny of Saudi Arabia's progress in implementing religious reform policies announced in July 2006. The commission, established by Congress in 1998 to monitor religious freedom, also asked the administration to pressure Saudi Arabia.....
