Karnataka and Kerala probing 'Love Jihad'

'Love Jihad' shocks south India
Bangalore, Oct 27: The alleged 'Love Jihad' which has taken the southern India by a storm is seeing reactions from all spheres. While the courts have ordered various investigative agencies to probe into the the issue, Hindu groups such as the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal have demanded 'special squads'.

Karnataka has been on of the states that has reported many incidents of 'Love Jihad' wherein Muslim men lure the women from other religions and force them convert to Islam promising marriage.

After a directive from Karnataka High court, State government on Monday, Oct 26 ordered a Criminal Investigation Department (CID) probe into the existence and network of 'love jihad" in the state and submit a report within two weeks.

The state Home Minister, VS Acharya called for a meeting with senior police officers and asked them to seriously look into the matter.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, V S Acharya said, "There are hundreds of cases reported in Raichur and other districts, and this is a matter of serious concern. The meeting is a follow-up of the high court directive."

With Kerala also affected by this disturbing trend, the state High Court also called for the police probe into the issue.

And on Monday, Oct 26, the high court expressed dissatisfaction over DGP Jacob Punnose"s 'unclear and incomplete' report on 'Love Jihad' or 'Romeo Jihad'.

In his report, the police officer had claimed that there was no evidence to confirm this trend but also noted that there were some unconfirmed reports that such activities were going on in the state.
