Bangalore, Oct 27: In a statement released after the trilateral meet, India, China and Russia vowed to jointly tackle international terrorism indicating that the Taliban-led violence in Pakistan-Afghanistan border dominated the discussion.
The foreign ministers of all the three countries met in Bangalore on Tuesday, Oct 27 to discuss possible business deals, issues of mutual concerns, global economic crisis, climate change, energy security and the reform of international bodies.
In the joint declaration released in a press conference, India's S M Krishna, Yang Jiechi of China and Sergei Lavrov of Russia promised expansion in trilateral cooperation along with pointing out the need for democratisation of international bodies.
"We discussed trilateral action against terrorism and transnational crime," Krishna said, assuring that the countries have identified 'common approaches' in addressing a host of regional and international issues.While Yang described the meeting as a 'very productive one' and emphasised on the fact that this is a 'new progress', Lavrov underlined the common stake of all the three countries in the restoration of peace and stability in Afghanistan.
The meeting came at a crucial time especially for India and China as they have been battling over the disputed region of Arunachal Pradesh along with the countries' disaggrement over the Tibetan spiritual leader, Dalai Lama's right to travel in India.
