Home Ministry hits out at 'Maoist sympathisers'

Home Ministry hits out at 'Maoist sympathisers'
New Delhi, Oct 27: As the country reels under the violence unleashed by extremist groups, the Union Home Ministry criticised the social activists and other Maoist 'sympathisers', and asked them to explain the violence.

Condemning the recent landmine blast that killed four CISF men in Chhattisgarh, the ministry on Monday, Oct 26 released a statement slamming the 'Left intellectuals' supporting the violence.

Even though there were no names named, the statement speaks of instances such as the criticism against the arrest and denial of bail of the alleged CPI (Maoist) politburo member Khobad Ghandy.

"What is the message that the (Maoists) intend to convey?", P Chidambaram's ministry questioned while speaking about the attack.

"These are questions that we would like to put not only to the CPI (Maoist) but also to those who speak on their behalf and chastise the government. We think that it is time for all right-thinking citizens who believe in democracy and development to condemn the acts of violence perpetrated by the CPI (Maoist)," the ministry argues.
