Government taking steps to revive khadi industry in J-K

Jammu, Oct 27 (ANI): The State Government of Jammu and Kashmir initiated steps for the revival of rural economy oriented cottage industry of Khadi, which has almost lost its sheen in the face of globalisation and foreign-made consumer goods.

The Government has come up with different discount schemes to attract customers, especially on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.

"Even the Government is taking initiatives to bring Khadi back on track. On Gandhi Jayanti, the Central Government offered 20 per cent discount for customers. On October 21, Jammu and Kashmir Khadi Board has provided five per cent discount. With that other organisations as well are providing five per cent discount. Those who want to buy today will get Khadi at Rupees 70 instead of Rupees100," said Ved Kumari Ghai, chairperson Gandhi Sewa Sadan.

Dinesh, a customer appreciates Khadi clothing and says that it is very comfortable to wear.

"Khadi clothes are very comfortable. It is made up of pure cotton. Khadi is made of porous material and good for summers. It helps in fighting skin problems. Khadi is a big industry and moreover it is Swadeshi so I prefer Khadi," said Dinesh, a customer.

Nowadays, people seem to be less attracted towards Khadi. But changes can be seen in the market as people are again showing enthusiasm towards Khadi. By Tahir Nadeem Khan (ANI)
