Seoul, Oct 26: After two years of hostility, the Red Cross Society of South Korea proposed to offer 10,000 tons of corn to North Korea on Monday, Oct 26.
However, officials maintained that nothing more must be looked into the 4.1 billion Won ($3.5 million) humanitarian aid provided by South Korea.
Unification Ministry spokesman Chun HAe-Sung said that the humanitarian aid provided to North Korea through the Red Cross Society apart from corn would include 20 tons of powdered milk and medical supplies, adding that Red Cross will be funding the rest of the aid.
He also said that the aid should not be looked as positive sign to resume assistance to its neighbor.
Relation between the two nations sored after President Lee Myung-bak came to power, which ended South Korea's aid to its estranged neighbor. Matters turn worse after North Korea tested missiles, five of which was tested on Oct 13, 2009.
Badly effected by the economic banned imposed by UN following its nuclear tests, North Korea had unofficially earlier this month sought a humanitarian aid from South Korea to battle its chronic shortage.
The last time South Korea had provided economic aid to North Korea was in 2007 worth $152 million.
