Maha: BJP stakes claim for oppn leader's post

BJP
Mumbai, Oct 26: Having won two more seats than its ally Shiv Sena in the Maharashtra Assembly poll, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has staked claim to the on the post of the Leader of Opposition in the Assembly.

While the Congress and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) alliance swept the state assembly polls, BJP claimed the third spot with 46 seats while Shiv Sena stands fourth with 44.

"As per the rules, we have more number of MLAs after the ruling alliance. So it is obvious we will get the post of leader of opposition in the Assembly," state BJP general secretary Vinod Tawade was quoted as saying in a news agency report.

However, BJP has not discussed this with the Shiv Sena which has held the position for the last 10 years. BJP's Jalgaon MLA Eknath Khadse's name is being discussed for the position.

But Sena has not be given up on the position. While the party is seeking the support of four candidates of the PWP who won with the Sena's help, Sena executive president Uddhav Thackeray is holding a meeting with newly-elected MLAs on Monday, Oct 26 to decide on the matter.
