Oz: Sikh youth beaten up, his turban removed

Melbourne, Oct 26: In yet another 'unprovoked' attack on an Indian in Australia, 22-year-old Sikh was beaten up by a group of Australians who also removed his turban while he was sleeping at a Melbourne bus stop on Sunday, Oct 26.

The police is investigating into the incident where a group of five males, believed to be between 17 and 19 approached the Indian youth and punched him in the head and removed his turban.

The police has appealed for any witness in connection with the incident which took place at Epping railway station in Cooper Street at around 12.45 am. However, no other details of either the Indian or the attackers have been revealed.

A local media report suggests that, while two of the five youths were bashing up the Indian, the others tried to stop it. The bus driver and a passenger also tried to stop the attack, reports The Age.The victim has reportedly sustained injuries to his mouth but he did not need any medical attention.

This adds to the long list of alleged 'racial attacks' on Indians down under which have come to light since Jun 2009.

Home detention for Dr Mohamed Haneef
