Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra draws hundreds of devotees in the Capital

New Delhi, Oct 24(ANI): Large number of devotees participated in the annual Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannatha, as it was taken out by International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) with full enthusiasm and deep reverence here on Saturday.

Ardent devotees from across Delhi and different parts of the world also participated in the event in which a religious procession carrying idols of Lord Jagannatha, sister Subadhra, brother Balbadhra were taken out in a decorated chariot and taken around the city for over six hours.

"I'm taking part in this Jagannath procession for the past 12 years. The Jagannath Chariot Procession is celebrated with full fervour and enthusiasm every year. Hundreds of thousands of devotees take part in this procession every year," said Raj Kumar, a devotee.

Das, a member of the ISKCON committee and a devotee, said that their attempt is to ensure the propagation of Jagannath culture in an effective manner among large masses across the world.

"Our society's main motive is to spread God's name all over the world and people to understand it. This is our ancient religion and this develops to nurture brotherhood among all of us. Secondly, the significance of this tradition is we can improve ourselves and in return we can improve our country," he said.

Though the main Rath Yatra of Lord Jagannatha is taken out in Puri district of Orissa and widely known as Chariot Festival that attracts hundreds of thousands of devotees from around the world, but in many parts of the country like in Gujarat or Delhi, the ardent devotees also take out the Lord's Rath Yatra.
