Delhi court adjourns Bofors case

New Delhi, Oct 24 (ANI): The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kawari Baweja on Saturday adjourned the verdict on the objections raised by a lawyer on the Central Burau of Investigation's (CBI) withdrawal of the Bofors pay-off case against Ottavio Quattrocchi.

Judge Baweja put the matter to November 6 for order on the application filed by Delhi based senior advocate Ajay Agarwal.

On October 3, Agarwal had challenged the CBI's move to withdraw the case saying it was trying to close the politically sensitive case despite having sufficient evidence against Quattrocchi.

CBI had sought closure of the case against 69-year-old Italian Businessman Quattrocchi, on the ground that continuance of his prosecution will be unjustified.

In its application filed before the court the CBI had said that it has arrived to the conclusion of closing the case as attempts to extradite Quattrochhi from Malaysia and Argentina failed.

The CBI, which also relied on various other factors including the Delhi High Court judgments quashing charges against all other co-accused to justify its decision, had said that the application to withdraw the case has been filed in good faith and in public interest.

Meanwhile, another advocate Jitender Soni had also moved the court opposing the CBI's withdrawal of the case against Quattrocchi.

Quattrocchi, the sole surviving accused in the case after the Delhi High Court quashed the charges in May 2005 against other accused, has never appeared before any court in the country. (ANI)
