Mewar, Goa express collide in Mathura; 9 killed
New Delhi, Oct 21: According to latest reports, at least 21 passengers were killed and 20 others injured, when Goa Express crashed into Mewar Express near Mathura early on Wednesday, Oct 21.

Rajesh Dikshit, a police spokesman said that rescuers recovered 19 bodies during a rescue operation that lasted nearly seven hours.

Two of the 19 injured people died in hospital, Dikshit said.

"Bodies of 13 passengers have been shifted to two hospitals in the city," District Magistrate Dinesh Chandra Shukla said.

District Magistrate Suresh Chandra Sharma said the smashed coach was reserved for women and physically handicapped people, although some additional people may have been among the victims.

Around 18 people have been rescued from the coach which was packed with women and children.

At least 13 people were killed and 20 others injured, when Goa Express crashed into Mewar Express near Mathura early on Wednesday, Oct 21, a TV news channel reported.

Several passengers are feared trapped inside the wreckage.

A railway official said that initial investigation shows that the driver of Goa Express ignored signals

The injured have been shifted to Mathura and Vrindavan hospitals. Police say the Army may have to be called in for rescue operations.The collision occurred around 5.30am on Wednesday. One of the bogeys of the Mewar Express is reported to be completely damaged and gas cutters are being used to break open bogies.

Reports also said that trains are moving on Delhi to Agra route after upline was restored.

UP still has 251 polio cases

Moradabad, Oct 20: The aggressive polio immunisation programme notwithstanding, Uttar Pradesh still accounts for almost 251 polio cases, out of the national figure of 326.
