Didi accuses Begal government of tapping her phone

Mamata Banerjee
Kolkata, Oct 17: After alleging that a press car tried to kill her, Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee has now claimed that the Bengal government is tapping her phone along with phones of her personal staff.

"My phone is being tapped. Phones of my personal staff are also being tapped. I am sure the central government has definitely not given sanction for it. It is being done by the state government," the Trinamool Congress supremo said on Friday, Oct 16.

Alleging that her phone was not only being tapped for last two to three years at the behest of the state government, Banerjee said her e-mails as well as her SMS were tapped.

The minister who claimed that her Railway phones were also tapped, called on the Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh to look into the matter, questioning, "If I can't give instruction to my staff, how can I work? As a cabinet minister how can I talk to my cabinet colleagues confidentially?"

Earlier, Banerjee had accused a press car of trying to hit her car after sneaking into the convoy. She had said that a car carrying press sticker with three people, including two with a camera tried to hit her car from behind in the early hours of Wednesday, Oct 14
