David Beckham's 'double' World Cup dreams

London, Oct 16 (ANI): Ace midfielder David Beckham first wants to end England's 44-year wait to reclaim the World Cup, and then plans to help the country win its battle for the right to stage the tournament here in 2018.

The Three Lions are among the favourites to win the World Cup finals in South Africa - and Football Association chiefs will discover in December 2010 if they will host the finals for the first time since 1966.

Beckham, an ambassador for England's World Cup bid, said: "It would be a dream to win both, it's everyone's dream, but there is a lot of hard work to be done on both."

Beckham is one of the world's biggest stars and has vowed to travel to all corners of the globe to secure vital votes.

He also played a massive part in Britain's successful bid to stage the 2012 Olympics, The Sun reports.

Beckham, who won his 115th cap as a second-half sub in Wednesday's 3-0 win over Belarus, insists England must pull out all stops to land the tournament in nine years.

"Without a doubt there is scope for me to get involved. We have the people there and we are serious about this bid. It's not something we're taking lightly. Just because we are England and we are a nation that loves the game, it doesn't mean we are taking this bid lightly. We don't expect to get it but we will work hard," he said.

England's bid was hit last week when Jack Warner, the influential president of the North American Football Confederation CONCACAF, accused them of complacency. (ANI)
