CGF in no mood to oblige Kalmadi's request

Mike Fennell
New Delhi, Oct 16: Just a few month ahead of the Commonwealth Games where world-class athletes will be battling it out for the title, the organising committees of the 2010 event are lodged in a verbal fight.

Indian Olympic Association (IOA) chief and Delhi CWG organising committee's chairman Suresh Kalmadi on Thursday, Oct 15 demanded that the chief executive Mike Hooper be recalled claiming that he was of 'no use'.

However, Commonwealth Games Federation Friday, Oct 16 made it very clear that Hooper will not be removed. CGF president Michael Fennell asked the Organising Committee (OC) to concentrate on the work at hand instead of launching 'personal attacks' against Hooper.

"We are naturally very surprised and disappointed in receiving this request to remove Mr Hooper from Delhi given his unquestionable commitment to the successful celebration of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi," Fennell said adding that he has communicated with Mr Kalmadi that Hooper enjoys full support from the CGF.

Apart from, this the CGF has also asserted that it will not give up its plan to have a Technical Review Panel to monitor preparation for the 2010 Games.

The fight started off when Commonwealth Games chief executive Hooper rejected suggestions from the organisers of the 2010 event which in turned hindered the work at Delhi.
