After Infosys, Wipro plans to hire US workers

Azim Premji, CEO of Wipro
New York, Oct 15: After Infosys, Wipro is also planning on hiring more US workers on hope that American employees will help the Indian company win deals from the world's third largest economy and its federal government.

In an interview with Bloomberg on Wednesday, Oct 14, Wipro's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Azim Premji said, "We are seeing signs of stability, signs of decision making coming back," adding that even though it was a positive atmosphere there was still need for caution.

The Bangalore-base company which gets about half its revenue from the US will be recruiting more workers in the US to take advantage of a rebounding technology market.

Premji informed that by Jun 2010, the company will hire about 500 local employees for a new services center. However, he did not divulge on any details on possible locations as he was still talking to different state governments.Wipro already has one centre in Atlanta.

Expressing concern over Barack Obama tightening the visa regulations and limiting H-1B visas, Premji said, “In the emotion of unemployment, he should not get carried away."
