Polls begin with tight security in 3 states

Mumbai, Oct 13: Polling began with tight security to elect the 288-member Maharashtra Legislative Assembly as well as 90 legislatures in Haryana and 60 in Arunachal Pradesh.

A N Roy, the State DGP for election said that over 1.29 lakh state police and Central paramilitary forces (CPMF) were deployed across the states for a peaceful poll.

He added that adequate CPMF were placed in the Naxal sensitive areas of Gadchiroli and Chandrapur districts of Vidarbha to avoid any disruption.

On Thursday, Oct 8, the Naxals killed 17 people in Gadchiroli district.

This assembly election would seal the fate of 3,559 candidates, including Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, his deputy Chhagan Bhujbal.

Moreover, an electorate of 7,56,34,525 would decide about 37 ministers.

Maha Polls: Shiv Sena, BJP announce alliance

Mumbai, Sep 19: While Congress and NCP continue to hold talks to formulate an alliance ahead of assembly polls, Shiv Sena and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have reached a seat-sharing agreement for the Oct 13 Maharashtra assembly elections."Shiv Sena will contest 169 and BJP 119 seats for the 288-member Assembly," BJP general secretary Gopinath Munde said."Our dream is to come to power in Maharashtra by ousting the Congress-NCP government. Who becomes the Chief Minister is immaterial," Munde added.....
