Pak facing 9/11-like situation every day: Malik

Singapore, Oct. 13 (ANI): Pakistan's Interior Minister Rehman Malik has said his country faces a 9/11-like situation every day because of its support to the global war on terror, and added that the country has received little in return for this sacrifice.

"International cooperation with Pakistan in combating terrorism is not befitting [us]," the Daily Times quoted him, as saying at the 78th General Conference of Interpol here.

He added that Pakistan needed adequate world support to fight well-trained terrorists.

Malik also pointed out the significance of tackling crime before it grew to the extent of being out of control.

"This is the lesson we have learnt from the experience of militancy and terrorism in Pakistan," he said, adding that the sophisticated weapons being used by the Taliban indicated that other countries were supporting them.

He said drug trafficking, money laundering and terrorism were interrelated crimes that could only be countered by meaningful cooperation.

He urged the international community to participate in the war on terror in terms of capacity building of law enforcement agencies. (ANI)
