Arunachal integral part of India: MEA to China

New Delhi, Oct 13: India on Tuesday, Oct 13 reacted strongly to Chinese objection to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to Arunachal Pradesh.

External Affairs Minister S M Krishna said, "Regardless of what others have to say, it is Government of India's stated position that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India."

External Affairs Ministry spokesman Vishnu Prakash said it was an established practice in India that leaders visit states where elections are held.

"We, therefore, express our disappointment and concern over the statement made by the Official Spokesman of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs," Prakash said.

The statements came after China said that it was "seriously dissatisfied" by the visit of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to Arunachal Pradesh.

15,000 people affected by floods in Tripura

Agartala, Jul 22: Almost 15,000 people have been affected due to inundation of low-lying habitations and agricultural lands in South Tripura following incessant rains across the state during last 24 hours. Official sources here today said one of the state's major rivers, Gumati, was flowing at danger level, while water level in most of the rivers had increased.
