3 states see moderate voter turnouts in 1st phase

Mumbai / Itanagar/ Chandigarh, Oct 13: Media reports revealed that there were moderate voter turnouts in the in the first phase of Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh and Haryana Assembly elections.

Around seven per cent voters voted in the first two hours of polling for the 288-member Maharashtra Assembly.

"Around seven per cent of the over 7.56 crore eligible voters in the state exercised their franchise till 9 am," said an election official.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh with 60 members recorded fifteen per cent polling.

Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and two other Congress candidates were elected unopposed from the three seats in Tawang district.

Around 600 central paramilitary forces were deployed in Tirap, which was declared disturbed under the Armed Forces Special Powers Act.

Nearly ten per cent electorate cast their votes during the first three hours of polling to elect 90 MLAs in Haryana.

On the other hand, Haryana recorded ten per cent voter turnout during the first three hours of polling decide the fate of 90 MLAs.

"The polling is going on smoothly and people are gradually coming out to cast their votes. The poll percentage has touched around 10 per cent by 10 a.m.," said Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana Sajjan Singh.

However, he reported of a group clash and some firing incident in Nemkhera village in Mewat district, 'but this was not close to the polling booth'.

Maha Polls: Shiv Sena, BJP announce alliance
