Injured Ferguson ruled out of Australian summer

Sydney, Oct 12(ANI): Australian middle-order batsman Callum Ferguson, who was injured during the Champions Trophy final against New Zealand has been ruled out of the Australian summer after a report confirmed that he had ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament.

Ferguson had twisted his right knee while fielding during the game in South Africa. The scans have revealed that the extent of damage to a joint is more than what was anticipated and he would have to sit out for six to twelve months.

Cricket Australia doctor Trefor James said the need of a knee reconstruction would keep Ferguson away from cricket for at least six months.Callum underwent scans in Adelaide on Friday and saw a specialist on Saturday. After consultation with Cricket Australia medical staff it was decided the best course of action is for him to have an ACL knee reconstruction," The Age quoted James, as saying.

"This procedure is likely to keep him out of the game for 6-12 months," he added.

The 24-year-old has a history of injuries, and he had previously injured the same knee in 2004, while the latest injury is a dire blow to both Ferguson and Australia, given his promising start to international cricket. (ANI)
