Australia safest for Indian students: Survey

Melbourne, Oct 12: According to a new survey, Indian students have ranked Australia as the safest nation.

A survey by overseas pupil recruiter IDP Education, 26 percent of over 1000 Indian students surveyed have ranked Australia as the safest destination for international students.

Other destinations like Great Britain and Canada came second with 20 percent of the vote, while New Zealand and America secured 13 percent and five percent respectively, AAP report said.

It pointed out that when it came to best government policies to protect international student, Australia came first again with 19 per cent of the vote, followed by the US, Britain, Canada, and New Zealand.

IDP Education chief executive Tony Pollock said, "These results are very encouraging in the light of recent challenges to Australia reputation as a quality, safe and good value provider of education to Indian students."

Australia charges Indian doctor in UK bomb plot

Melbourne, July 14: Australian Federal Police said today they had charged a 27-year-old Indian doctor over his alleged links to the perpetrators of attempted car bomb attacks in Britain on June 29 and 30. ''He has been charged with providing support to a terrorist organisation,'' a police spokesman said. The charge against Mohamed Haneef carries a maximum penalty of 15 years in jail. He is due to appear in court in Brisbane later today......
