Pak Army's opposition to KL Bill, no threat to Zardari govt: US

Washington, Oct.9 (ANI): The United States has rejected apprehensions regarding a threat to the Zardari government following the Pakistan Army's open criticism of the controversial Kerry-Lugar Bill.

US Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs PJ Crowley told media persons here that there was no threat to the Pakistan government in view of the military's opposition of the Kerry Lugar Bill.

"I don't think it is a threat to the civilian government in Pakistan," The Daily Times quoted Crowley, as saying.

"I think that actually what you are seeing is a government in Pakistan that is becoming more confident. It is becoming more assertive. It is doing things that are important to, you know, the Pakistani people," he said.

Crowley highlighted that the US is working closely with Pakistan to help the troubled nation pull itself out from the current turbulent situation.

"We are working very diligently, very closely with the Pakistani government. That's why the Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi met yesterday. It's why the Secretary and President Zardari met in New York," he said.

He said the US has no intention to impose its will or dictate things to Islamabad.

"We are committed to working closely with Pakistan. We are not going to impose US solutions on Pakistani problems," Crowley added. (ANI)
