Kerala boat mishap: Chief inspector of boats held

Thiruvanathapuram, Oct 9: Police have arrested the Chief inspector of boats for issuing a sea worthiness certificate to the boat which capsized in Thekkady lake on Sep 30.

A senior police officer, investigating the case said that the Chief inspector of boats, M Mathew, was arrested

M Mathews was held on the directions of crime branch IG Sreelekha. The police also arrested the temporary watcher Prakash for allowing the boat to be overloaded.

Earlier, police had arrested the steerman and a subcrew in connection with the mishap.

45 persons, mostly tourists from outside the state, had drowned after the ill-fated boat 'Jalakanyaka' overturned in the lake near the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary in Idukki district.

Bangalore, Feb 12: Cauvery, is termed by Indian constitution, as an interstate river. It rises at Talakaveri on the Brahmagiri hills in Western Ghats and flows through Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and parts of Puducherry. Cauvery Water Dispute Tribunal (CWDT), a tribunal set up 17 years ago, to decide on a dispute over sharing water from the River in Southern India has announced its verdict on Feb 5, 2007. 3-day-old baby mauled to death by stray dog

Kottayam, May 23: In a gruesome incident, a new born infant was mauled by a stray dog at Manarcadu here yesterday.According to the police, the local people in the area found the body of the baby being dragged by the dog.The postmortem revealed that the body was of a three-day-old baby girl, the sources said, adding the baby was suffocated to death immediately after its birth.It was suspected that the baby might have been abandoned by.....
