Bangalore, Oct 9: Several companies including IT giant, Infosys and biotechnology major, Biocon have vowed their support to the state government in aiding relief and rehabilitation efforts in the flood-hit regions of Karnataka.
Chief Minister, BS Yeddyurappa who has launched a full-fledged flood relief campaign calling for support from commoners to big firms announced on Thursday, Oct 8 that Infosys and Biocon have pledged to re-build around 6,000 houses at a cost of Rs 60 crore for the flood-affected people of north Karnataka.
"The IT and biotech industries in the state have come forward to help the state government in re-building houses for the people whose homes collapsed or got washed away in the flood havoc in 12 districts of north Karnataka last week," BSY said after his meeting with the Infosys chairman and chief mentor NR Narayana Murthy and Biocon chairperson Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw.
While Infosys will be re-building about 3,000 houses for Rs 30 crore - at Rs 100,000 per house, Biocon has promised to re-build another 3,000 houses for the same cost.
Apart from this, the Century group which manufactures Kurlon mattresses, has also pledged to re-build about 2,000 houses at a cost of Rs.20 crore and Amalgamated Beans Coffee (ABC) trading firm, headed by VG Siddhartha, has committed to re-build 1,000 houses at Rs 10 crore.
