Commonwealth Games delegation satisfied with facilities

New Delhi, Oct 9 (ANI): Commonwealth Games Organising Committee secretary general Lalit Bhanot has said that the visiting CGF delegation was confident that all infrastructure in New Delhi would be put in place before the deadline.

Delegates from all the 71 member nations of the CGF are presently in New Delhi ahead of the CGF General Assembly on October 12. They inspected a few under-construction venues and the Games Village on Thursday.

Bhanot said that all the visiting Commonwealth Games Federation delegates were satisfied with the facilities.

"We took all the delegates in two groups to the various stadiums in Delhi, although it will continue tomorrow also. They expressed satisfaction over various activities and various functional areas," said Bhanot.

The 2010 Commonwealth Games will be India's first major international sports event after the 1982 Asian Games. New Delhi hosted the inaugural Asian Games in 1951 and again in 1982.

Delhi had bagged the contract after beating the Canadian city Hamilton in the bid for the games.

The Games will be staged in India for the first time and in Asia for the second time. Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, held the Commonwealth Games in 1998. (ANI)

C'wealth suspends Pak for failing to restore democracy

Kampala, Nov 23: The Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) has suspended Pakistan from the 53-member group for failing to restore democracy and the rule of law in the country.
