Mary Kom apologises; suspension revoked

New Delhi, Oct 7: Considering 'her achievements and seniority', the Indian Boxing Federation (IBF) has decided to revoke the suspension against pugilist MC Mary Kom.

The four time world champion was suspended for her 'unsporting behaviour' in the ongoing National Boxing Championships. The boxing federation took this step after the Manipuri boxer apologised and promised never to repeat it again.

"Having considered her achievements and seniority, the temporary suspension till 27th October of Mary Kom has been lifted after she apologised before the jury and the officials this morning," P K Muralidharan Raja, IBF secretary general said.

Mary Kom who is represting the All India Police Board (AIPB) at the domestic meet, lost her temper after losing to Pinky Jingra of Haryana in the quarter-final on Monday, Oct 5.

She reportedly used objectionable language against the judges forcing the IBF to take action against her. She was suspended till Oct 27 from all boxing activities.

Boxing: India begins on disappointing note

Chicago, Oct 24: India began on a disappointing note with Suresh Singh biting the dust against David Oltvanyi of Hungary in the bantamweight (54kg) first round bout on the first day of the World Boxing Championship here. National champion Suresh held on to his own for a while but succumbed to the superiority of his opponent to lose 4-9 on points in a low-scoring bout at the University of Illinois-Chicago Pavilion yesterday. With this loss, only seven Indians remain in the fray.....
