Hundreds of AP villages face threat of submersion

Andhra Floods
Hyderabad, Oct 6: With the water levels in the flood-hit state of Andhra Pradesh showing no signs of receding, hundreds of villages in Krishna and Guntur districts and Vijayawada city face threat of inundation.

According to the latest media reports, inflows in Prakasam barrage have reached a record million cusecs and weakening embankments at particular points along the river course threaten to inundate vast areas.

Even though Irrigation officials believe that the barrage faces no threat, the barrage has never faced such massive inflows in its history.

State authorities have mobilised 300,000 sand bags to stop flooding, while efforts are still on to evacuate thousands of people.
