Saudi Arabia lashes teens after riots

Riyadh, Sep 30: Saudi Arabia authorities have flogged a group of teenagers after a rare riot in the eastern region of the Islamic kingdom, a local newspaper said on Tuesday, Sep 29.

Newspapers such as al-Hayat and al-Watan said some 20 teenagers had received at least 30 lashes each. Human rights activists and liberals condemned the flogging.

The groups of young people smashed windows of restaurants and shops in Khobar on Saudi national day last week.

Three semi-finalists to get byes to 2011 Asian Cup

Bwngkok, July 24: Three of the four Asian Cup semi-finalists will be given byes to the 2011 finals, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) said today. This year's 3rd/4th place match takes on added significance with the two losing semi-finalists made to go head-to-head for automatic qualification. South Korea, Japan, Iraq and Saudi Arabia all have a chance to book their places in the 2011 competition in tomorrow's semi-finals. Three-times champions Japan face.....
