Mont Blanc commemorates Dandi march with pens

Mahatma Gandhi
New Delhi, Sep 30: Mont Blanc launched a set of premium pens worth Rs 11.3 lakh under its limited-edition series commemorating Mahatma Gandhi's Dandi march in 1930 against the British salt tax.

The 'Mahatma Gandhi Limited Edition 241' marks the 241 miles which, the Father of The Nation covered in the march.

The pen has a gold wire entwined by hand around middle of each pen, which 'evokes the roughly-wound yarn on the spindle with which Gandhi spun everyday for half an hour', irrespective of where he was or whoever he was with at that point.

Mont Blanc would produce 241 such pieces for the global market.

The pen would have a hand-crafted rhodium plated 18-carat gold nib depicting Gandhiji holding his trademark lathi — all in gold.

But a cheaper version is also available.

Around three thousand pieces of 'Mahatma Gandhi Limited Edition 3000" both as a fountain pen and a roller ball would be available worldwide.

The fountain pen would cost about Rs 1.7 lakh and the roller ball would be Rs 1.5 lakh.

The pens would have sterling silver mountings on the cap and the cone.

However, in these pens, Gandhi holding his lathi is in the same colour as the nib.

An obscenely prized Mont Blanc pen to Commemorate the memory of a man who was described as a "naked fakir" and who shunned all forms of materialistic pleasures ?? At best, Market opportunism of the worst kind; at worst, a sick joke in bad taste.
