Ishrat case: Home ministry files revised affidavit

Ishrat Jahan
Ahmedabad, Sep 30: The Union Home ministry on Wednesday, Sep 30 filed a revised affidavit in the Gujarat High Court, clarifying its stand in the Ishart Jahan case.

The Home Ministry, in its fresh affidavit, has also put forth Centre's view on human rights, saying that it respects human values and is not only against the fake encounters, but against any encounter.

According to reports, the affidavit clarifies that the information given by the Centre was a tip off and does not validate the action taken by Gujarat Government, which led to the death of Jahan and three others.

The Gujarat Government claimed that its police officials acted on inputs provided by the Union Home Ministry.

It also alleged that the Centre had given credibility to the reports that Ishrat Jahan was on a mission to target Gujarat Chief Minister Modi.

The Union home secretary had earlier said that the Centre cannot be held accountable for the action by the Gujarat government, based on inputs - which were not conclusive proof.
