Washington, Sep 30: A report by The New York Times revealed that Lashkar-e-Toiba, the Pakistan-based group behind the Mumbai terror attacks was determined to strike India again.

The report said that despite Pakistan's effort to disintegrate the militant group, it flourished since Nov 2008, when 10 recruits killed 163 people in Mumbai rampage.

Intelligence officials from the United States, Europe, India and Pakistan stated that the Lashkar maintained a broad existence and it was in a position to be mobilised for further attacks.

The report cited senior Defence Department official and a senior American counter-terrorism official warning India that Lashkar may plot new Mumbai-style attacks.

"There were indications of possible terrorist activity in the run-up to the Indian elections," in May, "and that information was shared promptly with Indian officials," said the unnamed counter-terrorism official.

However, Pakistan seemed unaware of such probable strikes."We heard that the Americans have warned the Indians that something in Mumbai might happen, but no one informed us," said a senior Pakistani intelligence official to NYT.

"Right now we cannot guarantee that it will not happen again, because we do not have any control over it."
