Elephant calf rescued in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur, Sep 30 (ANI): Rangers of Dhalbhum Forest Range in Ghatsila region in Jharkhand managed to rescue a ten-day-old elephant calf after it got isolated from its herd and fallen in a ditch of the dense forest area.

The calf was brought to the Tata Zoological Park located in Jamshedpur city, which is close to the Ghatsila on Tuesday.

Initially, certain villagers spotted the calf and instantly they alerted the forest department.ue to improper infrastructure, the forest rangers faced many problems in shifting the tiny elephant to the Tata zoological Park.

"Personnel of our forest department were informed by the villagers about the elephant calf which was spotted in the Ghatsila region of the forest. We are now taking care of it. It is just 10 to 15 day old calf," said A T Mishra, Divisional Forest Officer, Dhalbhum Forest Range, Jharkhand.

The elephant calf, which has injuries at many spots on its body, is being fed with milk and tender grass.

"The calf is weak. It must have suffered injuries when its herd members tried to save it for a while. Hopefully, it will get ured at the earliest," said Dr. Manik Palit, Veterinarian, Tata Zoological Park, Jamshedpur. (ANI)
