Arunachal CM declared elected unopposed

Itanagar, Sep 30: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and two other ruling Congress candidates were declared elected unopposed to the 60-member state legislature assembly.

Along with Khandu (Mukto constituency), Tsewang Dhondup, Jambey Tashi, all belonging to Buddhist Tawang district, were declared elected unopposed as no nominations were filed against them.

Congress has put up candidates for all the 60 seats going to polls on Oct 13.

NCP has 36 candidates, while trinamool Congress, which is contesting elections for the first time in this eastern border state, has 26 aspirants.

The single largest opposition, BJP, has been weakened due to the defection of all its nine MLAs and former Lok Sabha member, Kiren Rijiju, to the ruling Congress.

15,000 people affected by floods in Tripura

Agartala, Jul 22: Almost 15,000 people have been affected due to inundation of low-lying habitations and agricultural lands in South Tripura following incessant rains across the state during last 24 hours. Official sources here today said one of the state's major rivers, Gumati, was flowing at danger level, while water level in most of the rivers had increased.
