Oz sentences muslim author for 9 yrs

Sydney, Sep 25 : An Australian court sentenced a man to nine years of imprisonment for producing a 'do-it-yourself jihad' book.

The NSW Supreme Court jury found Belal Khazaal guilty of producing a book with objectionable material regarding assisting and plotting terrorist acts.

However, Khazaal said he never intended to incite terrorist acts.

The 110-page book in Arabic, titled 'Provisions Of The Rules of Jihad - Short Judicial Rulings And Organisational Instructions For Fighters And Mujahideen Against Infidels' discusses terrorist acts such as bombings, shooting down planes and assassinating eminent personalities of the world such as former US president George Bush.

Commenting on the judgment, Justice Megan Latham said she found it 'unsurprising' that a jury rejected Khazaal's defence.

'It beggars belief that a person of average intelligence who has devoted themselves to the study of Islam over some years would fail to recognise the nature of the material,' said Latham.
