New HIV trail vaccine that cuts risk of infection

HIV Aids Vaccine
New Delhi, Sep 25: A major medical breakthrough has come to the aid of the humanity's fight against against HIV-AIDS. An experimental vaccine has shown the capability of reducing the risk of HIV infection by almost a third or 30 per cent.

The finding was a result of a three year long HIV-AIDs vaccine trial conducted by the US Army and Thailand's Ministry of Public Health on 16,000 volunteers. The vaccine in a combination of two older shots which did not work individually.

Informing that there will be further studies done on the vaccine, Eric G John, US Ambassador to Thailand said, "In the international scientific and medical communities around the globe, this trial will be recognised as a testament to Thailand's ability to successfully execute a complicated vaccine trial, the largest ever attempted, that ended with a credible conclusion, and that brought us one step closer to an HIV vaccine."

Even though there is a need for studies lasting up to quarter a century to turn this breakthrough into a medical landmark, this development has brought a lot of optimism.
