Kolkata, Sep 21: According to a new survey done by IDC, a premier global provider of market intelligence, advisory services, and Dataquest, the IT attrition rate has dipped from an average of 18 per cent to 15 per cent over the year.

The survey states, the average retention rate, defined as percentage of employees retained out of the total employees as on Mar 31, 2008, improved to 85 per cent, from 79 per cent in 2008.

This comes despite the the low increment in salaries, frozen recruitment, withholding new appointments and lay-offs. The results indicate a positive change in the work environment in spite of the average salary increases during the year were pared to 1.4 per cent, the survey says.

However, due to mass lay-offs amid the economic crisis, there was a drastic fall in the number of people who experienced job security.

In a significant finding, the study says that the employees are happy with the interest shown by the management as well as their immediate seniors in helping them strike a work-life balance compared.

The improvement in the quality of communication has led the companies to being perceived as more transparent, while the people are also assured that they are being paid according to the industry standards and are therefore content with salaries they are getting.
