Dupre 'sexcapades' dashed former NY Governor Spitzer's presidency dreams

New York, Sep 21(ANI): Former New York Governor Eliot Spitzer's dalliance with Ashley Dupre, the call girl involved in the scandal responsible for Spitzer's resignation, not only toppled him from governorship, but also dashed his 12-year plan to run for the White House.

Constantine, a senior advisor and long time friend of Spitzer, who had been crafting Spitzer's political career since the mid-1990s, has now said that Spitzer had an eye on United States Presidency.

"Eliot was going to be governor for eight to 12 years, and then he was going to run for president," The New York Post quoted Constantine, as saying.

Spitzer, during his time in office, had made many controversial decisions for New York, which included a proposed bill to legalize same-sex marriage and an executive order allowing illegal immigrants to be issued driver's licenses.

However, in March 2008, it was reported that Spitzer was a client of a prostitution ring under investigation by the federal government, and following the incident which is widely regarded as the 'Eliot Spitzer prostitution scandal', Spitzer announced his resignation as governor of New York, and the dream was shattered.

In reaction to the whole issue, Constantine said: "I was angry. I love him, but I was angry."

When enquired if Spitzer will make a comeback into politics after all the disgrace that he had to face after the scandal that linked him to Ashley Dupre, Constantine said that he won't rule out the possibility. Whether it's through teaching kids, or writing-or running for something someday -- I don't know. But, he is certainly not finished being a contributor to the public debate on the big issues," Constantine added. (ANI)
