Chennai hosts second national sports meet for specially-abled

Chennai, Sept 21 (ANI): More than 800 specially-abled sportspersons from 15 states participated in the second national sports meet in Chennai.

The two-day sports meet, which concluded on Sunday, was organised by the All India Handicapped Rehabilitation Centre.

Various sporting events including wheel chair, shot put, cycling, kabaddi were organised.

Thoirumalai Kumar, a specially-abled sportsperson from Andhra Pradesh, who had taken part in many international meets, said he hoped to do better.

"Till now, I have taken part in many international meets. I have taken part in three Asian Games, one Commonwealth Games, two World championships and at the last World Games. I have been selected for the World Games to be held in Bangalore," said Kumar.thers demanded more help from the government.

"We will surely achieve more awards and more medals from the international meets. We want more support from the Tami Nadu and the Indian Government," said Gouri Shankar, a specially-abled sportsperson. (ANI)

TNTF stage demo opposing VAT in city

Chennai, Dec 26: Members of the Chennai District unit of the Tamil Nadu Traders Federation (TNTF) staged a noisy demonstration here today, urging the state government to immediatelty withdraw the Tamil Nadu VAT Act, 2006, as it would badly affect the small traders.
