Centre spent Rs 100 cr in 5 yrs for VVIP bungalows

New Delhi, Sep 21: A report of The Times Of India revealed that in the last five years, maintenance of Lutyens Zone VVIP bungalows cost the public exchequer around Rs 100 crore.

"An amount of Rs 93.50 crore has been spent towards up gradation, ordinary repair and superior repair of these bungalows by CPWD responsible for upkeep of the MP bungalows," the Directorate of Estates said in response to an RTI appeal.

The reply revealed that though members of parliament are provided free accommodation yet, a license of Rs 105 is charged on bungalow.

Around 77 bungalows were allotted to different ministers.The RTI response showed that nearly Rs 11 crore was spent on these bungalows in 2004-2005, Rs 9 crore in 2006 followed by Rs 20 crore in 2006-2007 and Rs 33 crore in 2007-2008.

CPWD recorded spending Rs 21 crore till Jun 2009 to maintain these bungalows.
